This is a good external dvd drive, sleek and beautiful..a little delicate though. A lot of people are saying that their LED TV does not recognise this drive although the product details state that you can connect this to your TV. The problem is that this is not plug-and-play when connected to a LEDTV….you have to change the mode to USB. This will then be detected by any LED TV that plays videos through USB. After you place the dvd in the tray, you have to press and hold the eject button for 2 secs so that the green led glows and the player goes into USB mode. Slide the tray close, and now…the TV will recognise this as an USB device…otherwise it will not. You have repeat this process everytime you connect this to the USB port. You can refer to the LG external dvd drive instruction manual on the net….it clearly explains the process. HP does not provide any instruction manual…at least I wasn’t able to find one. Happy movie watching on your LED TV!!

Be aware that the product model is GP70N of HP brand and not HP F6V97AA#ACJ, as described in the website of amazon.
As per the HP India website, the product comes without any toolkit CD. Registering the product for warranty is a huge headache and HP customer support redirects the customers to local service centers, hence the warranty is as good as nothing! Further, apart from the serial number, nothing tallies regarding the details marked on the product comparing with its package.
The product is okay, Chinese made. Read and Write speed is a bit better than average. Durability is okay, if handled with care.

You should know this, that this review is coming from an Apple sheep. And even though I consider Apple’s SuperDrive the best looking and well built (with materials like aluminum) out of all the external optical drives I’ve scoured the internet for. Side note: I still have a little regret not choosing SuperDrive of HP DVD Drive. HP’s offering is really good in that, it’s inexpensive and gets the job done, quick. You just plug the external drive in to your computer via USB type A connector, pop a CD in and wait for the magic to happen; it’s as simple as that. It’s a plug and play drive (you don’t need any drivers). There still are some drawbacks (I wouldn’t be too worried about these) of these HP drives; it is made of plastic and feels cheap in the hand. It has a sliding tray mechanism, which makes the whole drive rather fragile since the slightest of force can break it beyond repair and it’s made by HP. I have no problems with the company, but they just aren’t known for manufacturing good laptops, Lenovo, Dell and ASUS take the lead; that’s the reason why I was a bit skeptical about this purchase (But it turned out great! So, that’s good). Just to make it clear, I absolutely recommended this (for people worried about burning a hole in their pockets) and put it in context with this statement coming from an Apple sheep owning a MacBook Air who still feels a little bit guilty about not going for SuperDrive, you should purchase this external optical drive by HP (at around $23 or INR 1,500) without a second thought. I stand by this product a 100%
HP has stopped supporting this product and its software or drivers are also removed from the HP website, but we are still selling this on Amazon.
Connected it to my HP Spectre x 360 laptop and it worked without any glitches. I transferred some songs from CDs to my laptop, not used it to write a CD or DVD. The connection is through USB 2.0 and hence bit slow (compared to in-built CD drives).
Its lightweight (220 gms with usb cable) and looks nice. Kind of a ‘must-have’ gadget for present day laptops without cd/dvd drives.

I bought it for ₹1410/- & following are my observations.
? Simply plug and play. Works flawlessly on windows 10. No driver installation needed.
? Compatible with USB 3.0 too
? Most economical option from a reputed brand with one year warranty.
? Very lightweight and easy to carry. The cable isn’t very long though.
? It seems a bit delicate but it’s a very minor thing.
With CD/DVD drives from laptops becoming almost extinct this is the only possible option. Best available option from a reputed brand that does the job.

Ordered the product on 24 Oct 2018 at around 7.30 PM and the delivery date was shown as 27 Oct 2018 with Prime Two day delivery. I received the product on 25 Oct 2018 at 1.30 PM that is in less than 24 hours and that too for free with 2% cashback(since I am a Prime customer). Five stars to Amazon for that. Now coming to the product, best in class by HP. The product is very light weight, easy to carry, easy to use(just plug in to the USB port of your system) and you are ready to go. The product is responsive and no CDs are required for software installation to run the product. The packaging was nice. Inside the box, the contents include one DVD RW, one USB Cable(about 23 inches in length) and user manual. The price quoted in the box is Rs 2499 but I got it for Rs 1399 and 2% cashback on Rs 1399. Same product is listed on Flipkart for Rs 1599. I would recommend you guys, who wish to buy external DVD writer, go for this because it carries a brand name HP and also the product is very good. It also carries One Year Warranty.
